Day 311- Presidential Election

Dear Nora,

When we wake up tomorrow, either President Obama will have earned 4 more years, or there will be a new president, Mitt Romney. Your Daddy and I have talked about what it means for us, for you, for the country either way. We both agree that our life as we know it probably won't change too much in the next 4 years, but I do worry about the effects of the presidential outcome for other people whose lives are different from ours, as well as for the country in the long-run.

When it comes to what we consider to be the "big issues", your Daddy and I are mostly on the same page. I know that many of your early opinions will be formed based on what we teach you. But as I sit here anxiously watching the results roll in, I wonder what you'll be thinking and feeling on the 1st Tuesday in November 30-some years from now.  I wonder which side of the political spectrum you'll find yourself on. I wonder what issues will be of utmost importance to you and your family. I hope that some of the issues that are being fought and heavily debated today are finally non-issues by the time you are old enough to cast your first vote.

I probably won't get much sleep tonight. Unlike you. You've been fast asleep for an hour and a half now, completely oblivious to our country's political tug of war. For that, I am thankful.

We love you, and more than anything, we want you to have the best and brightest future possible.

Momma and Daddy xo

P.S. Here  you are checking out the electoral map right before bed time. Disclaimer: The colors on the map are not accurate- just for fun.

Day 310- 19 Months Old

Nora is now officially closer to 2 than she is to 1.

Well, this is a new development.
Pretty in Pink
My voracious reader- double fisted!
A future pharmacist?

I know I say something similar each month, but it is true- She is smarter and sweeter and funnier and more beautiful with each passing day.

Day 309- Repeat After Me

Nora has only in the past month really started to repeat what she hears. For example, she sings a pretty convincing version of "Twinkle Little Star" and the "Alphabet Song". She will attempt to repeat almost any word I say, sometimes successfully and sometimes not even in the same ballpark, but she tries.

Yiya! (Not so great with L sounds yet.)

Orssss!

On a completely unrelated note, Nora kicked Daylight Savings Time's booty! I swear, my child has an internal DST clock, as we have never had much of an issue with the transition. She actually slept later than she has ever slept in this morning, waking up at about 7:30 (yesterday's 8:30) and not calling for us until 7:55!  She napped at her regular time, and she went to bed just 15 minutes earlier than her usual bedtime tonight.

My kid rocks.

Day 308- Fall Back

It's that time of year. Tonight, the clocks will fall back one hour, and in theory, we can sleep for an extra hour. Of course, if Nora doesn't quite get the memo, we may be up at the crack of dawn. In an attempt to wear her out and help her sleep a little later in the morning, we tried to keep her busy this evening.

First we headed over to Victor Ashe Park to play.

Swing Time
Walking across an unsteady bridge with Dad's help
Hopping off the sliding board
Moving down to her favorite field
She climbed up on this bench but was not sure what to think about her shadow.

After we felt like we had run her around enough, we headed to Ruby Tuesday for dinner where Nora received many compliments on what a "doll" she was and how well-behaved she was. We were, of course, very proud of her.

Finally, we hit the grocery store. We knew we were moving in to iffy territory because it was sneaking up on what should have been bath time (and bed time!) but we had the goal to keep her awake about 30 minutes later than usual, so we forged on. She was as sweet as can be for our whole grocery trip. We definitely felt relieved because it could have gone very wrong.

Once we got home, Nora still had time to watch an episode of Play With Me Sesame before calling it a night. Let's hope that our plan to wear her out and keep her up doesn't come back to bite us in the morning.

And as a bonus, Nora got her hands on the camera at some point today, apparently, and she took these self-portraits. A budding abstract/artsy photographer, don't you think?

Day 307- Quiet Evening

It's that time of year when I start counting down for football season to be over so that we can have Brad back *every* night of the week. 2 or 3 Fridays to go. I hope 2, but I think it's 3. Anyway, Nora and I had a pretty quiet evening around the house.

Chillin' at the dinner table
Nora hates being washed- she'd prefer to wash herself

Yep, fuzzy cell phone pictures this evening.

Day 306- Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!

Probably my favorite thing that Nora does right now is give hugs. In abundance. And she gives really good ones, too. Arms wrapped around my neck, cheek pressed against my cheek. I melt.

The most fun hugs I get are the running hugs. She gives me a sly smile. She walks across the room. She turns to face me, and then she runs at top speed towards me yelling, "Aaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!" until we meet in a giant, happy hug.

Love is... this.
